Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO)

The LCBO was created in 1927 with the end of prohibition in Ontario, which had been introduced in 1916. Following a narrow victory in the 1924 prohibition plebiscite to retain temperance laws, the Conservative government of George Howard Ferguson campaigned in 1926 on easing restrictions and introduced the Liquor Control Act as a compromise between complete prohibition and unregulated alcohol sales.
