Granville Island Public Market (managed by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation - CMHC)

Granville Island began as a hub for industry in 1915, serving the forestry, mining, construction, and shipping sectors. By 1970, the industrial base had declined and many buildings were partially abandoned. The Government of Canada, City of Vancouver, and private developers stepped in to revitalize the area, with the Public Market established in 1979 as the centerpiece of the new vision for fresh, locally produced goods.
