Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL)

FCL was established in 1944 through the merger of the Saskatchewan Co-operative Wholesale Society and the Consumers' Co-operative Refinery Limited (founded in 1934 by eight farmers during the Great Depression who were tired of paying high prices for fuel). The Co-op Refinery Complex began when farmers risked their own money and land to establish their own petroleum refinery to supply farmer-owned gas stations.
