Big Rock Brewery Inc.

Founded in 1985 by Ed McNally, a retired lawyer and barley farmer who was disappointed in the beer available in Calgary. Through legal work representing barley growers, McNally learned that Alberta's climate produces ideal 2-row barley for malting and had access to glacial water from the Rocky Mountains. At age 60, he decided to open a craft brewery to 'make the beers that I want to drink, not what will be popular.'
